Malaysia -> KUALA LUMPUR -> Islamic Arts Museum
Islamic Arts Museum    KUALA LUMPUR,

The Islamic Arts Museum (MuziumKesenian Islam) is an open-plan building with a well-documented collection. The museum features dioramas of Muslim holy places, and India, China, and Malay galleries. The China and India galleries have some interesting pieces, including a carved wooden locking mechanism in the India gallery meant to keep the harem away from the rest of the world. The Malay gallery, however, is the most fascinating with an actual three meter high archway belong to the house of an Indonesian notable and a finely decorated trunk belonging to Terengganu royalty. The museum also contains some embroidered textiles and Western European cooking devices influenced by the Islamic world. The last thing you will see as you exit is a reversed dome ceiling, an interesting take on the traditional domes that decorate mosques.
