Kota Kinabalu City Botanical Park    Kota Kinabalu,

Kota Kinabalu City Botanical Park's 24-hectare mangrove forest was designated a bird sanctuary in 1996 and is the only remaining section of the mangrove swamp that once covered this area. That makes this sanctuary very important for local species as well as northern Asian migratory birds. Various species of birds call this mangrove home, such as egrets, sandpipers, pigeons, doves, and majestic purple herons. Little creatures also inhabit these grounds so don't be surprised to see fiddler crabs, mudskippers, monitor lizards, water snakes, or mud lobsters. The best viewing of the birds is early in the morning or late afternoon.
