Malaysia -> Sandakan -> Turtle Islands National Park
Turtle Islands National Park    Sandakan,

The three small islands that make up the Turtle Islands National Park are the preferred egg-laying sites for the green and hawksbill turtles. The turtles have complementary laying seasons so it is possible to see one or the other at almost any time of the year. The only way to visit the islands is to go on an organized overnight tour. During the day you can swim, sunbathe, and snorkel until your nighttime adventure. These overnight tours are important to help finance the conservation efforts, but the whole thing can turn into a circus, with 30 or so tourists huddled around a single female snapping pictures of her birthing endeavor. Once her eggs are laid and she is tagged and returns to the water, the staff collects the eggs and brings them to a fenced hatchery where they are protected from birds, rats, and fishermen.
